Audio Unit - Audio System Fiesta 1996 (08/1995-02/2002)
Description and Operation

The Audio units are designated the 3000, 4000 and 5000 series. Vehicles built 08/1996 onward the 6000 series is available and vehicles built 01/1997 the 1000 series is added to these units. They are of the new large bezel type designed to fit the 100 x 160 mm DIN sized apertures which are located in the centre section of the crash padding facia.

The main purpose of the new designs is to improve the ease of operation by providing larger controls and improved graphics.

The1000 series is a two channel radio/cassette player with a power output of 5 watts (RMS) per channel. Tone and balance are not adjustable on this unit, although the volume control functions in the normal way.

The 3000 series is a two channel radio/cassette player with a power output of 15 watts (RMS) per channel and available with or without traffic information, Radio Data System (RDS). The 4000 series is a similar four channel version, but with an output of 7 watts (RMS) per channel.

The 5000 series is a more advanced four channel unit which features an RDS EON system for the radio with traffic announcements (TA) and programme type (PTY) display, which when available, allows the listener to select stations according to programme type. In the UK up to 15 categories are currently available.

The 5000 series also incorporates the remote controls for an optional six disc auto changer CD player which is available as an after market accessory for fitting under the front passenger seat.

The 6000 series is a four channel radio receiver/CD player with a power output of 7 watts (RMS) per channel and it shares the same features as the 5000 series.

Multiplug connections follow the normal Ford configuration except the antenna which is now to the ISO standard.

This new range of radio receiver/cassette players can be removed from the crash padding facia using the standard radio removal tool.

The loud speakers are mounted in the front doors for both two and four channel systems with additional speakers mounted on the rear parcel shelf on four channel versions. Additional high frequency units may also be fitted in the front doors on some variants.

For further information on these audio units refer to the Vehicle Test Manual, Section 38 (Audio Systems).

Security Features

A high level of anti-theft security is provided by a four digit KEYCODE Additionally all models in the large bezel range feature a removable security panel. On the1000 series, the central circular panel can be removed and on all other models, the four central station select buttons can be removed. This exposes a highly visible reflective panel and on the four button versions there is also a flashing LED.

On the 5000 and 6000 series the vehicle registration or VIN number (up to 16 characters) can also be stored in the electronic display if required. Once inserted into the memory this number is permanently stored and is not lost when the battery or the audio unit is disconnected for any reason.

On those vehicles fitted with the Ford anti-theft alarm system, the alarm will sound if the audio unit is disconnected while the alarm is set.
