Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Installer, Oil Seal

Installer, Oil Seal Carrier

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the wheel hub.
    For additional information, refer to Wheel Hub in this section.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. Remove the wheel speed sensor ring.
    • Discard the wheel speed sensor ring.

  1. Remove the water seal carrier (if equipped).
All vehicles

  1. Remove the circlip.

  1. Using the special tool, remove and discard the wheel bearing.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the brake drum on the wheel mounting face and not on the wheel nut studs.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new wheel bearing.
    Using the special tool, install the wheel bearing.

  1. Install the circlip.

  1. Install the water seal carrier.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Avoid any impact on the wheel speed sensor ring.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is clean.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Avoid any contact between the wheel speed sensor ring and a magnetic surface.
    Using the special tool, install a new wheel speed sensor ring.
All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The following step is only required for vehicles that did not have a water seal previously installed.
    Using suitable emery cloth, remove any pitting or corrosion from the leading edge of the wheel spindle seal running surface.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The following step is only required for vehicles that did not have a water seal previously installed.
    Attach the water seal and protective cap to the wheel spindle.

    NOTE:The following step is only required for vehicles that did not have a water seal previously installed.
    Install the water seal.
    1. Using the special tool, engage the water seal and protective cap.
    1. Tighten the special tool to 7 Nm.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The following step is only required for vehicles that did not have a water seal previously installed.
    Remove the special tool.
    • Remove the protective cap.
  1. Install the wheel hub.
