NOTE:Use an Allen key to stop the piston rod from turning. Undo the suspension strut top nut by five turns. | | -
Loosen the axle stub nut. | | -
Remove the lower suspension arm from the spindle carrier. | | -
CAUTION:The halfshaft stub nut can be re-used four times; mark the nut. Detach the front drive halfshaft from the wheel hub. - Unscrew and remove the drive halfshaft stub nut and press out the drive halfshaft stub from the wheel hub using a commercially available puller .

CAUTION:Support the drive halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. CAUTION:Do not damage the oil seal. NOTE:Close off the transmission openings to prevent loss of fluid and ingress of dirt. NOTE:Escaping fluid. Collect the fluid in a suitable container. Remove the front drive halfshaft. - Remove the retaining bracket.
- Pull out the intermediate shaft.

CAUTION:Do not damage the oil seal when inserting the front drive halfshaft. For the iB5 transmission, use an installation sleeve (supplied with each new oil seal). Install the front drive halfshaft with intermediate shaft. | | -
NOTE:Renew the retaining bracket and nuts on the intermediate bearing. NOTE:Insert the intermediate shaft into the transmission until the intermediate shaft bearing touches the rib of the intermediate shaft bracket. Install the front drive halfshaft with intermediate shaft. | | -
CAUTION:The drive halfshaft stub nut can be re-used four times; observe the marking on the nut and renew it if necessary. Pull the drive halfshaft stub axle into the wheel hub using the special tool. - Fit the drive halfshaft stub nut.

Attach the lower suspension arm to the spindle carrier (left-hand side shown). - Attach the lower suspension arm.
- Tighten the bolt.
