Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Expander, Teflon Seal

Remover, Oil Cooling Pipe

Removal

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the power steering fluid cooler hose.
    1. Insert the special tool into the quick-release coupling.
    1. Slde the special tool along the pipe to release the locking tangs.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Detach the power steering line support bracket from the engine.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
    • Depress the locking tang.

  1. Disconnect the power steering line union.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Disconnect the power steering fluid hose from the power steering pump.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Detach the power steering pump mounting bracket from the engine, (shown from below for clarity).

  1. Remove the power steering pump.

  1. Remove the power steering line from the power steering pump.

  1. Remove the PSP switch.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If installing a new power steering pump, the unions supplied with the pump should be removed and retained for further use.
    Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal onto the power steering line to power steering pump union.
    1. Push the new O-ring seal onto the special tool.
    1. Locate the special tool onto the union and install the O-ring seal.

  1. Install the PSP switch.

  1. Install the power steering line to the power steering pump.

  1. Install the power steering pump.

  1. Attach the power steering pump mounting bracket to the engine, (shown from below for clarity).

  1. Connect the power steering fluid hose to the power steering pump.

  1. Connect the power steering line union.

  1. Connect the PSP switch electrical connector.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Attach the power steering line support bracket to the engine.

  1. Connect the power steering fluid cooler hose.
  1. Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.
  1. Fill and bleed the power steering system. For additional information, refer to Section  211-00 Steering System - General Information.
