Starting System - Starter Motor—1.6L Zetec-E (Zetec)/1.8L Zetec-E (Zetec)/2.0L Zetec-E (Zetec) Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the breather pipe (air cleaner outlet tube removed for clarity).

  1. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet tube from the throttle body and remove the air cleaner.

  1. Remove the starter motor upper bolts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector.

  1. Remove the starter motor.

Installation
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
