Air Distribution and Filtering - Pollen Filter Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE:
NOTE:The pollen filter is located on the passenger side below the cowl panel.
NOTE:
NOTE:Position the wipers in the vertical position.
NOTE:
NOTE:The sealing strip will be damaged when the cowl panel grille is removed.
Vehicles built up to 01/1999:

  1. Remove the cowl panel grille on the passenger side.
    1. Remove the caps.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    • Clean the sealing strip residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.
Vehicles built up to 05/1999

  1. Remove the cowl panel grille on the passenger side.
    1. Remove the caps.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Release the clips.
    • Clean the sealing strip residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.
Vehicles built from 05/1999

  1. Unclip the cowl panel grille on the passenger side.
    • Clean the sealing strip residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.

  1. Remove the white sliding clips from the body panel mounting points and insert them into the mounting points on the back of the cowl panel grille.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the pollen filter retaining flap.

  1. Remove the pollen filter.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:A protective screen with a rubber edge is inserted between the wiper motor and the filter housing. This must be cleaned of dirt every time the filter is changed.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the flow direction for the pollen filter.
    Install the pollen filter.

  1. Clip in the pollen filter retaining flap.
Vehicles built up to 05/1999

  1. Shorten the foam block to 55 mm (RHD vehicle shown).

  1. Drill an additional water drain hole in the cowl panel grille (RHD vehicle shown).
All vehicles

  1. Apply the cowl panel grille double sided adhesive strip.
    1. Remove the protective film and apply the cowl panel grille adhesive strip to the cowl panel grille, starting from the middle.
    1. Bend back about 40 mm of the second protective film at the outer end by 90°.
  1. Pull off the second protective film from the cowl panel grille adhesive strip and press the cowl panel grille fully into place in the region of the windshield using a suitable roller.
Vehicles built up to 01/1999:

  1. Install the passenger side cowl panel grille.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Install the caps.
Vehicles built up to 05/1999

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all clips are fully engaged.
    Install the passenger side cowl panel grille.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Install the caps.
    1. Attach the clips.
Vehicles built from 05/1999

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all clips are fully engaged.
    Clip the passenger side cowl panel grille into place.
