Removal and Installation

  1. Replacement parts
    • Outer wheelhouse

Removal

  1. General Notes
    • The quarter panel needs to be removed before the repairs can be started.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The location of the separating cut may be changed depending on the extent of the damage. The repair shown only describes a complete replacement in full.
    Part replacement options on outer wheel housing
    1. Separating cut for rear partial replacement.
    1. Separating cut for front part replacement.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The remaining flange (approx. 12 mm) is required for welding with an overlap.
    Outer wheelhouse
    • Cut location.

    • Mill out the spot welds.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:In the area shown, the separating cut can only be made from inside. The rocker panel with reinforcement behind may not be damaged while performing the repair.

Installation

NOTE:
NOTE:Before resistance spot welding of body panels with a total panel thickness of 3 mm and greater, the welding equipment instructions contained in sub-section 501-25 must be followed.

  1. Outer wheelhouse (inside view)
    1. Drill holes for puddle welding.
    1. Cut location. Cut new part to leave a sufficient overlap for resistance spot welding.
  1. Place new part on body from above, align and secure.

  1. Outer wheelhouse
      NOTE:
      NOTE:The new part is abutted in the separating area (position 1).
    1. Continuous MIG weld seam.
    1. Puddle welding.

  1. Outer wheelhouse
    • Resistance spot weld.

  1. Outer wheelhouse (inside view)
    1. Intermittent MIG weld.
    1. Resistance spot weld.
