General Equipment
Trolley jack

Removal

  1. Remove the rear wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the stabilizer bar link from the rear lower arm on both sides.
  1. Using a trolley jack, support the wheel knuckle.

  1. Detach the shock absorber from the wheel knuckle.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:As the spring is under extreme tension care must be taken at all times. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Using the special tools, compress the spring.
  1. Remove the trolley jack.
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:As the spring is under extreme tension care must be taken at all times. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    With the aid of another technician, pull the rear lower arm downwards to release the spring from the upper and lower spring seats and remove the spring.

Installation

  1. Using a trolley jack, support the wheel knuckle.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:As the spring is under extreme tension care must be taken at all times. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Using the special tools, compress the spring.
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:As the spring is under extreme tension care must be taken at all times. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the upper spring seat mount is correctly installed.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the spring ends butt correctly against the upper and lower spring seats.
    Install the spring.
  1. Remove the special tools.
  1. Using a trolley jack, position and align the wheel knuckle with the shock absorber.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the shock absorber to wheel knuckle retaining bolt at this stage.
    Attach the shock absorber to the wheel knuckle.
  1. Remove the trolley jack.

  1. Attach the stabilizer bar link to the rear lower arm on both sides.
  1. Install the rear wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The final tightening of the shock absorber to wheel knuckle retaining bolt must be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Tighten the shock absorber to wheel knuckle retaining bolt.
