Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Coolant Hose Clamp

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system.
    For additional information, refer to: Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03A Engine Cooling - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), General Procedures).
  1. Remove the generator.
    For additional information, refer to: Generator - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma) (414-02 Generator and Regulator, Removal and Installation).

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the thermostat housing to coolant expansion tank coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the thermostat housing to radiator lower coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

  1. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts and remove the thermostat housing.

  1. Remove the thermostat and seal.

Installation

NOTE:
NOTE:Make sure that the thermostat degas pin is located at the 12 o'clock position. Failure to follow this may result in damage to the cooling system.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Refill the cooling system.
