Install the lower radiator splash guard. | | -
Install the engine undershield. | | -
Remove the special tools on both sides (right-hand side shown). | | -

Remove the battery carrier. For additional information, refer to: Battery Tray - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.8L Duratec-HE (MI4)/2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4) (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation). | | -
Initialize the window winder motors. For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures). | Installation Details Item 1 : Transmission | -
CAUTION:The torque converter must remain at the correct installation depth throughout the whole installation procedure. CAUTION:Make sure that the two locating dowels are installed. NOTE:Before installing the bolts in the transmission, the torque converter studs must be aligned with the holes in the drive plate. Install the torque converter. | | -
CAUTION:The torque converter hub must engage fully in the oil pump drive gear. Check the installation depth of the torque converter. - Position the steel straightedge on the transmission flange.
- Measure the correct installation depth between the automatic transmission flange and the torque converter guide collar.

CAUTION:The torque converter must remain at the correct installation depth throughout the whole installation procedure. NOTE:Secure the transmission with securing straps. NOTE:Support the transmission with suitable wooden blocks. NOTE:Make sure that the dowel pins are correctly installed in the engine flange. | Item 2 : Transmission right-hand bolt. | -
Install the transmission right-hand bolt. | Item 3 : Transmission lower bolts | -
Install the transmission lower bolts. | Item 4 : Transmission upper bolts | -
Install the transmission upper bolts. - Install the ground cable on the transmission.
| Item 6 : Torque converter nuts | -
CAUTION:Make sure that the torque converter nuts do not fall into the torque converter housing. NOTE:Renew the torque converter nuts. Install the torque converter nuts. - Turn the engine to gain access to the fastening points of the three torque converter nuts.
| Item 7 : Starter motor | -
Install the starter motor. For additional information, refer to: Starter Motor - 1.8L Duratec-HE (MI4)/2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4) (303-06A Starting System, Removal and Installation). | Item 8 : Rear engine mounting bracket | -
Raise the engine / transmission assembly slightly using the special tools. | | -
Install the rear engine mounting bracket (rear engine mounting shown removed for clarity). | Item 9 : Rear engine mounting | -
NOTE:Install a new bolt on the rear engine mounting. NOTE:Do not tighten the bolt of the rear engine mounting for the moment. Install the bolt of the rear engine mounting. | | -

Remove the special tools. | Item 10 : Halfshaft LH | -
Install the left-hand halfshaft. For additional information, refer to: Front Halfshaft LH (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation). | Item 11 : Halfshaft RH | -
Install the right-hand halfshaft. For additional information, refer to: Antriebswelle vorn rechts (205-04 Vorderradantriebswellen, Removal and Installation). | Item 12 : Engine roll restrictor | -
Install the engine roll restrictor. | | -
Install the crashbox. - Install the M10 x 16 bolt.
- Install the M10 x 25 bolts.
| Item 13 : Exhaust pipe | -
NOTE:Install a new flexible exhaust pipe gasket and nuts. Attach the flexible exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter. - Coat the catalytic converter stud with grease before installing.

Attach the flexible exhaust pipe to the crossmember exhaust bracket. | | -
Detach the support sleeve or the reinforcement from the flexible exhaust pipe. | Item 14 : Radiator mounting | -
Fasten the radiator support bracket on both sides (right-hand side shown). - Push the radiator back into the installation position.
- Screw in the rear radiator support bracket bolt.
- Tighten the radiator support bracket bolts.

Fasten the radiator support bracket on both sides (left-hand side shown). - Screw in the rear radiator support bracket bolt.
- Tighten the radiator support bracket bolts.

CAUTION:The automatic transmission contains components and assemblies which are sensitive to electrostatic charging. Attach the automatic transmission central connector. - Attach the central connector and lock by turning clockwise.

Attach the transmission fluid cooler feed and return lines to the automatic transmission. | | -
Clip in the transmission fluid cooler feed and return lines at the fluid line bracket. | Item 15 : Transmission ground cable | -
Install the ground cable on the transmission. | | -
Tighten the bolt of the rear engine mounting. | Item 16 : Selector lever cable | -
CAUTION:Do not kink the selector lever cable. Attach the selector lever cable to the transmission. - Press the locking pins together and attach the selector lever cable to the abutment, press down the locking tab.
- Attach the selector lever cable to the selector mechanism.
