Disassembly
  1. Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the throttle body.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the intake manifold.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the engine lifting eye and the ignition coil.

  1. Remove the coolant outlet housing.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the engine lifting eye and the intake manifold studs.

  1. Remove the exhaust camshaft.
  1. Remove the spark plugs.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the hydraulic tappets.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold.
    • Discard the gaskets.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold studs.

Assembly
  1. Install the exhaust manifold studs.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new gaskets.
    Install the exhaust manifold.
  1. Coat the hydraulic tappets with engine oil.

  1. Install the hydraulic tappets.
  1. Coat the camshaft and the camshaft bearing shells with engine oil.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The intake and exhaust camshafts are marked with two identification rings between the fourth and fifth cams. The exhaust camshaft has larger space between the identification rings.
    Install the exhaust camshaft so that none of the cams is at full lift.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The camshaft must not be turned for at least 15 minutes after tightening the camshaft bearing caps.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The position descriptions of the camshaft bearing caps can be read from the rear.
    Install the exhaust camshaft bearing caps.
  1. Apply grease on the spark plug threads.
  1. Install the spark plugs.

  1. Install the engine lifting eye and the studs.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new gasket.
    Install the coolant outlet housing.

  1. Install the engine lifting eye and the ignition coil and spark plug wires.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new gasket.
    Install the intake manifold.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new gasket.
    Install the throttle body.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new gasket.
    Install the IAC valve.
