Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Lever, Wheel Knuckle

Removal

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.
    Loosen the strut and spring assembly top mount nut by five turns.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.

  1. Detach the brake hose support bracket from the suspension strut.

  1. Detach the stabilizer bar connecting link from the suspension strut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Suspend the brake caliper and anchor plate to prevent load being placed on the brake hose.
    Detach the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly from the wheel knuckle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    Detach the lower arm ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

  1. Remove the wheel knuckle to suspension strut pinch bolt

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Suspend the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.
    Using the special tool, detach the wheel knuckle from the suspension strut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:With the aid of another technician, support the strut and spring assembly.
    Remove the strut and spring assembly.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
