Removal

  1. Standard preparatory measures
    • Make a note of the radio keycode.
    • Make a note of the pre-set radio stations.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Disconnect the battery ground lead.
    Remove the upper intake manifold.
    For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold - Upper - Removal and Installation in this section.

  1. Pull the HT leads off the spark plugs and the injector wiring rail from the front engine mounting bracket.

  1. Remove the injector wiring rail (two bolts).

  1. Remove the EI coil (four bolts)
    • Plug from the EI coil.
    • Unclip the wiring harness.
    • Ground cable

  1. Detach the front wiring harness bracket from the right-hand cylinder head cover.

  1. Detach the rear wiring harness from the right-hand cylinder head cover.

  1. Detach the wiring rail from the right-hand cylinder head cover.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Loosening sequence
    Remove the cylinder head cover.
    • Remove the gasket.

Installation

  1. Clean the mating face with a clean cloth.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Fit the cylinder head cover with a new gasket within four minutes of applying the sealer. Before fitting the cylinder head cover apply a drop of sealer approximately 8 mm in diameter to each of the joins shown.
    Install the cylinder head cover using a new gasket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Tightening sequence.
    Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts.

  1. Attach the wiring rail to the right-hand cylinder head cover (two bolts).

  1. Attach the rear wiring harness to the right-hand cylinder head cover.

  1. Attach the front wiring harness bracket to the right-hand cylinder head cover.

  1. Fit the injector wiring rail (two bolts).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Ground cable
    Install the EI coil (four bolts).
    • Connect the two EI coil plugs.
    • Clip the wiring harness in place.
    • Connect the ground cable.

  1. Push the HT leads onto the spark plugs and the injector wiring rail onto the front engine mounting bracket.
  1. Install the upper part of the intake manifold.
    For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold - Upper - Removal and Installation in this section.
  1. Standard finishing operations
    • Connect the battery ground lead.
    • Enter the radio keycode.
    • Reprogram the pre-set radio stations.
    • Reset the clock.
