Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Standard preparatory measures:
    • Make a note of the radio keycode.
    • Make a note of the pre-set radio stations.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Disconnect the battery ground lead.
  1. Raise the vehicle.

  1. Detach the engine undershield (nine bolts).

  1. Detach the lower wheel arch cover.

  1. Detach the shift cable and the selector cable from the gear shift lever and the gear selector lever on the transmission.
    • Remove the shift cable from the abutment bracket by twisting the abutment bracket counter-clockwise, and pull it downwards out of the engine compartment.
    • Lower the vehicle.

  1. Move the selector lever and the gear shift lever on the transmission to "neutral" (both levers should be vertical).

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
    1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) multiplug.
    1. Undo the hose clip.
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose.
    1. Unhook the rubber retainer.
    • Remove the intake hose.

  1. Remove the selector cable.
    • Remove the selector cable from the abutment bracket by twisting the abutment bracket counter-clockwise, and pull it downwards out of the engine compartment.

  1. Screw off the gear lever knob, and unclip and remove the boot.
  1. Open the ashtray and pull it out.

  1. Detach the center console at the front.

  1. Detach the center console at the front (continued).
    • Remove the screws on both sides (left-hand side shown).
    • Remove both front trim panels.
    • Disconnect the plug from the cigar lighter.

  1. Detach the side cover from the air conditioning/heater housing.
    • Take off the screw caps and remove the two screws on each side (left-hand side shown).

  1. Remove the center console.
    • Tighten the hand brake cable.
    • Pull the center console backwards.
    • Pull the center console together with the boot over the parking brake lever and lift it out.

  1. Detach the shift cable and the selector cable from the gear lever.
    • Remove the cables by twisting the abutment bracket counter-clockwise.

  1. Remove the bolt and push the air duct upwards.

  1. Cut the carpet and fold it over to one side.

  1. Detach the selector and shift cable bush and slide it out from inside the passenger compartment.

Installation

  1. Refit the components in the reverse order.
  1. Adjust the shift cable and the selector cable. For additional information, refer to Section  308-00 Manual Transmission/Transaxle and Clutch - General Information.
  1. Standard finishing operations:
    • Connect the battery ground cable.
    • Enter the radio keycode.
    • Reprogram the pre-set radio stations.
    • Reset the clock.
    • Carry out a road test to enable the PCM to gather data.
