Heating and Ventilation - Heater Core Housing Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Disassembly and Assembly

Disassembly

All Vehicles

  1. Remove the attachments from the left-hand side of the heating assembly/AC housing.
    1. Remove the vacuum diaphragm units (leave the hoses connected).
    • Unclip the connecting rods.
    • Unscrew the two nuts on each unit.
      NOTE:
      NOTE:Only vehicles with SATC air conditioning.
    1. Remove the recirculation/air intake flap solenoid (hoses remain attached).
    • Undo the two bolts.

  1. Remove the attachments from the right-hand side of the heating assembly/AC housing.
    1. Remove the vacuum diaphragm unit.
    • Unclip the connecting rods and undo the two bolts.
    • Remove the vacuum diaphragm unit and the hose.
    1. Remove the temperature flap servomotor (if fitted).
    • Remove four bolts.

  1. Detach the blower motor/evaporator housing section.
    • Remove the screws.

  1. Detach the heating assembly/AC housing.
    1. Undo the bolts at the front.
    1. Remove the rubber seal.
    1. Undo the nut for the AC evaporator.
    • Remove the housing together with the AC evaporator.
    • Unclip the vacuum pipes.
Vehicles with air conditioning

  1. Remove the AC evaporator.
Vehicles without air conditioning

  1. Remove the air deflector.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the upper part of the blower housing.
    1. Pull off the metal clips (if fitted).
    1. Release the eight retaining tabs.

  1. Disconnect the housing parts.
    • Release the two retaining tabs.

  1. Disassemble the blower upper part.
    1. Disconnect the seal.
    1. Release the three retaining tabs.

  1. Disassemble the housing.
    1. Release the five retaining tabs.
    1. Pull off the clips.

  1. Disassemble the housing (cont.).
    1. Remove the three air flaps (two shown).
    1. Pull out the air flap adjusting shafts.

Assembly

  1. Assemble the components in the reverse order.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Secure the housing parts with additional clips as the retaining tabs can be damaged when the housing parts are disconnected.
    Secure the housing parts.
    1. Insert the retaining tabs.
    1. Fit the clips.
