Removal

  1. Remove the transaxle. For additional information, refer to: (307-01B Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Vehicles With: 5-Speed Automatic Transmission (5F31J))
    Transaxle - 2.0L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel (Removal and Installation),
    Transaxle - 2.5L Duratec-VE (VE6) (Removal and Installation).

  1. Install the special tool.

  1. Using the special tools, mount the transaxle on the mounting stand.
  1. Drain the transaxle.
    For additional information, refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill (307-01B Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Vehicles With: 5-Speed Automatic Transmission (5F31J), General Procedures).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:To avoid damaging the torque converter hub do not tilt the torque converter.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The torque converter is filled with transmission fluid.
    Remove the special tool and the torque converter.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Using the special tools, remove the halfshaft seal cap on both sides.
    • Discard the halfshaft seal caps.

  1. Using the special tool, punch the halfshaft seals.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a self-tapping screw, a maximum of two turns, into the halfshaft seal.
    Remove the halfshaft seals.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
    • Discard the halfshaft seals.

  1. Remove the torque converter housing.

  1. Remove the differential assembly.

  1. Remove the transmission fluid filter.

  1. Remove the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor.
    1. Disconnect the OSS sensor electrical connector (cable colored yellow).
    1. Remove the OSS sensor.
    1. Remove the OSS sensor cable retaining bracket.

Installation
  1. Install the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor.
    1. Install the OSS senosr.
    1. Connect the OSS sensor electrical connector (cable colored yellow).
    1. Install the OSS sensor cable retaining bracket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the transmission fluid filter is correctly seated on the locating pin.
    Install the transmission fluid filter.

  1. Install the differential assembly.
  1. Clean the mating face of the torque converter housing and transaxle housing with suitable metal surface cleaner.

  1. Apply a 2 mm diameter bead of sealant to the transaxle housing.

  1. Install the torque converter housing.
  1. Install the torque converter.

  1. Using the special tool, secure the torque converter.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Install the halfshaft seal flush with the transaxle housing.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new halfshaft seals.
    Using the special tool, install the halfshaft seals.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Install the halfshaft seal cap flush with the stub axle shaft.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new halfshaft seal caps.
    Using the special tool, install the halfshaft seal caps.

  1. Remove the transaxle from the mounting stand.

  1. Remove the special tool.
  1. Install the transaxle. For additional information, refer to: (307-01B Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Vehicles With: 5-Speed Automatic Transmission (5F31J))
    Transaxle - 2.0L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Diesel (Removal and Installation),
