Electric hand drill

Removal

All vehicles

  1. Remove the left-hand front scuff plate trim panel.
Vehicles built up to 06/2002
  1. Remove the instrument panel.
    For additional information, refer to: Instrument Panel (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the central junction box (CJB) from the A-pillar and position it to one side.

  1. Remove the air duct.

  1. Remove the defroster duct.

  1. Disconnect the temperature blend door and the air distribution blend door actuator electrical connectors.
    • Detach the wiring harness from the air distribution.

  1. Disconnect the blower motor and blower motor resistor electrical connectors.

  1. Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch electrical connector.
    • Depress the tang.

  1. Disconnect the air bag control module electrical connectors.
    • Detach the wiring harness from the transmission selector lever.

  1. Disconnect the audio unit electrical connector.

  1. Detach the telematics control module from the in-vehicle crossbeam (if equipped).
    • Detach the clamp from the in-vehicle crossbeam.

  1. Disconnect the auto-dimming interior mirror and interior lamp electrical connectors.

  1. Remove the in-vehicle crossbeam.
    • Detach the wiring harness from the in-vehicle crossbeam.

  1. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) electrical connectors.
    • Detach the insulation pad from the A-pillar.

  1. Remove the TCM.
Vehicles built 06/2002 onwards

  1. Detach the instrument panel lower panel from the instrument panel.
    1. Remove the retaining screws.
    1. Detach the retaining clips.

  1. Detach the electronic automated temperature control (ATC) sensor from the instrument panel lower panel (if equipped).
    • Remove the instrument panel lower panel.

  1. Remove the insulation pad (if equipped).

  1. Detach the central junction box (CJB) from the A-pillar and position it to one side (instrument panel shown removed for clarity).

  1. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) electrical connectors (instrument panel shown removed for clarity).
    • Detach the insulation pad from the A-pillar.

  1. Remove the TCM (instrument panel shown removed for clarity).

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the correct transmission control module (TCM) is installed or irregular driving conditions may occur.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:All TCM's must be installed using the correct screws, which are supplied in service.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
