Installation

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the two guide sleeves are installed.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation) /
    Jacking (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Secure the transmission on the transmission jack using suitable retaining straps.
  1. Coat the input shaft splines with a thin coating of grease.

  1. Move the transmission into position using the transmission jack and install.

  1. Install the transmission left-hand side retaining bolts.
    1. Install the bolt from the engine side.
    1. Install the bolts from the transaxle side.

  1. Install the transmission right-hand retaining bolts.

  1. Install the transaxle upper retaining bolts.
    • Install the ground lead on the transmission.
  1. Remove the securing straps.
  1. Remove the transmission jack.

  1. Install the rear engine mounting bracket.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Using the special tools, raise the engine and transaxle assembly.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new rear engine mount retaining nuts.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the rear engine mounting retaining nuts for the moment.
    Install the rear engine mount.

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. Install the ground lead on the transmission.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, rinse off the affected areas with cold water without delay.
    Attach the clutch slave cylinder pipe to the clutch slave cylinder.
    • Install the spring clip.
    • Attach the clutch slave cylinder line to the bracket.
  1. Bleed the clutch system.

  1. Connect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

    Jacking (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  1. Attach the battery positive lead and the starter motor solenoid cable to the starter motor.
    • Attach the wiring harness to the transmission.

  1. Attach the gearshift cables at the transaxle.
    1. Attach the gearshift cables to the bracket.
    1. Attach the gearshift and selector cables at the selector mechanism.
  1. Adjust the gearshift cables.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Secure the halfshaft to prevent damage to the constant velocity joints. The inner constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 18 degrees. The outer constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the halfshaft oil seal is not damaged.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the snap ring is correctly located in the groove.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new snap-ring.
    Attach the left-hand halfshaft to the transmission.
    • Remove the special tools before completely installing the transmission.

  1. Install the intermediate shaft center bearing retaining bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Secure the halfshaft to prevent damage to the constant velocity joints. The inner constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 18 degrees. The outer constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the halfshaft oil seal is not damaged.
    Attach the right-hand halfshaft to the transmission together with the intermediate shaft.
    • Remove the special tools before completely installing the transmission.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new intermediate shaft center bearing cap and self-locking nuts.
    Install the intermediate shaft centre bearing cap.

  1. Install the accessory drive belt cover.
  1. Install the subframe.
    For additional information, refer to: Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).

  1. Tighten the rear engine mount nuts.

  1. Install the cowl panel.

  1. Tighten the strut top mount nuts on both sides.

  1. Install the strut top mount reinforcement cover.

  1. Install the air cleaner.
    1. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
    1. Attach the clamp to the air cleaner intake hose to the engine.

  1. Install the engine cover.

  1. Install the PCV hose and vacuum hose on the engine cover.
  1. Check the transmission fluid level and top up with transmission fluid if necessary.

  1. Connect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Initialize the window winder motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
