Installation

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Ensure that the two guide sleeves are installed.
  1. Raise the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation) /
    Jacking (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Secure the transmission on the transmission jack using suitable retaining straps.
  1. Coat the input shaft splines with a thin coating of grease.

  1. Move the transmission into position using the transmission jack and install.

  1. Install the transmission upper bolts.
  1. Remove the securing straps.
  1. Remove the transmission jack.

  1. Install the left-hand transmission bolts.
    1. Install the engine-side bolt.
    1. Install the transmission-side bolts.

  1. Install the transmission lower bolts.

  1. Install the right-hand transmission bolts.

  1. Attach the ground cable to the transmission.

  1. Install the rear engine mounting bracket.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Raise the engine / transmission assembly using the special tools.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new rear engine mount retaining nuts.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the rear engine mounting retaining nuts for the moment.
    Install the rear engine mount.

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When installing a new transmission abutment, attach the gearshift cables.
    Attach the gearshift cables to the transmission.
    1. Attach the gearshift cables to the abutment.
    1. Attach the gearshift and selector cables to the selector mechanism.
  1. Adjust the gearshift cables.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, rinse off the affected areas with cold water without delay.
    Attach the clutch slave cylinder pipe to the clutch slave cylinder.
    • Install the spring clip.
    • Attach the clutch slave cylinder pipe to the bracket.
  1. Bleed the clutch system.

  1. Attach the reversing lamp switch connector.
  1. Raise the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation) /
    Jacking (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  1. Install the starter motor.
    • Tighten the starter motor bracket bolt.
    • Attach wiring harness to starter motor.

  1. Tighten the starter motor bolts.

  1. Attach the wiring harness bracket to the engine.

  1. Connect the oil pressure switch connector.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 18 degrees. The outer constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the halfshaft oil seal is not damaged.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the snap ring is correctly located in the groove.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new snap-ring.
    Attach the left-hand halfshaft to the transmission.
    • Remove the special tools before completely installing the transmission.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 18 degrees. The outer constant velocity joint must not be bent by more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the halfshaft oil seal is not damaged.
    Attach the right-hand halfshaft to the transmission together with the intermediate shaft.
    • Remove the special tools before completely installing the transmission.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new intermediate shaft center bearing cap and self-locking nuts.
    Install the intermediate shaft centre bearing cap.

  1. Install the auxiliary drive belt cover.
  1. Install the subframe.
    For additional information, refer to: Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Tighten the rear engine mount nuts.

  1. Install the cowl panel.

  1. Tighten the strut top mount nuts on both sides.

  1. Install the strut top mount reinforcement cover.

  1. Detach the engine lifting eye from the generator bracket.

  1. Install the air cleaner.
    1. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
    1. Attach the air cleaner to engine intake hose clamp.

  1. Install the engine cover.

  1. Install the PCV hose and vacuum hose on the engine cover.
  1. Check the transmission fluid level and top up with transmission fluid if necessary.

  1. Connect the battery ground lead.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Initialize the window winder motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
