Supplemental Restraint System - Clockspring Ranger 2006.5 (05/2006-)
Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Remove the driver-side air bag module.
    For additional information, refer to: Driver Air Bag Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to: Steering Wheel (211-04 Steering Column, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the column cover.
    For additional information, refer to: Steering Column Shrouds (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

5. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  1. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.
    • If the air bag system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system.

Installation Details

Item 3 : Clockspring

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If the clockspring is not adjusted, the spring wire in the clockspring could over-wind and break when the steering wheel is turned. Always adjust the clockspring after installing it.
    Adjust the clockspring after installing it.
