Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal 

Removal 

1. Remove the transmission/transaxle.
2. Remove the flywheel or flex plate.

3. NOTE:  Clean the crankshaft rear oil seal and cylinder block prior to removing the rear oil seal.

Screw in the Jet Plug Remover.

Remove the seal.

Installation 

1. NOTE:  Apply Motorcraft Super Premium SAE 5W30 motor oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G to seal and seal edge.

Install crankshaft rear oil seal on Rear Main Seal Replacer.

2. Install the Rear Main Seal Replacer and the crankshaft rear oil seal on the crankshaft.

Alternate bolt tightening to crankshaft rear oil seal.

3. Install the flywheel or flex plate.
4. Install the transmission/transaxle.
