Cooling System Draining and Vacuum Filling > < Engine Cooling
Engine Cooling - 2.5L Duratec (VI5) - Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding S-MAX/Galaxy 2006.5 (03/2006-)
General Procedures

NOTE:
NOTE:When releasing the cooling system pressure, cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a thick cloth.
  1. Release the cooling system pressure by slowly turning the coolant expansion tank cap between 2 and 3 turns.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    Refer to: Lifting (100-02, Description and Operation).

  1. Install the radiator drain plug.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:The fluid level must remain between the MAX and MIN marks.
  1. Switch the interior heater blower off.
  1. Remove the right-hand front headlamp.
    Refer to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01, Removal and Installation).

  1. Fill the coolant expansion tank coolant level to the neck of the tank.
  1. Connect the coolant degas hose to the radiator.
  1. Install the right-hand front headlamp.
  1. Install the coolant expansion tank cap to the coolant expansion tank.
  1. Start the engine.
  1. Raise the engine speed to 2500 revolutions per minute (RPM).
  1. Monitor the coolant level for 3 minutes. If the coolant level falls below the MIN mark stop the engine, refill the cooling system and return to step 14.
  1. Maintain the engine speed at 2500 RPM for 8 minutes until the engine is at normal operating temperature.
  1. Maintain the engine speed at 2500 RPM for 3 minutes.
  1. Increase the engine speed to 4000 RPM for 5 seconds.
  1. Decrease the engine speed to 2500 RPM and maintain for 3 minutes.
  1. Stop the engine.
  1. Check the cooling system for leaks.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    Refer to: Lifting (100-02, Description and Operation).

  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Allow the engine to cool.
  1. Fill the coolant expansion tank coolant level to the MAX mark.
