Removal and Installation

Transmission jack

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
WARNING:This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Drain the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the exhaust system from the two center exhaust hanger insulators.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When detaching the exhaust system allow the system to be supported by the rear suspension assembly.
    Detach the exhaust system from the rear exhaust hanger insulator.

  1. Remove the exhaust system heat shield.

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank vent pipe from the fuel tank.

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.

  1. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter.

  1. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister pipe from the fuel tank vent valve.

  1. Detach the fuel tank vent valve from the evaporative emission canister bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use a suitable packing material to prevent damage to the underside of the fuel tank.
    Using a suitable transmission jack, support the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the fuel tank retaining bolts.

  1. Partially lower the fuel tank.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE: Fuel supply line connectors are white or are identified by a white band. Fuel return line connectors are red or are identified by a red band.
    Disconnect the fuel return line from the fuel tank.

  1. Disconnect the fuel pump module electrical connector.

  1. Remove the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the fuel tank vent valve.

Installation

    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the fuel lines are connected in the correct fuel-flow direction. Fuel supply line connectors are white or are identified by a white band. Fuel return line connectors are red or are identified by a red band.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the fuel supply and fuel return lines click into place when installing the lines. To make sure that the fuel lines are fully seated, pull on the lines.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:When installing the fuel tank make sure the fuel lines do not get kinked or trapped.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The fuel filler and vent pipe retaining clamps must be installed in the same position as removed.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
