Pinpoint Tests

NOTE:
NOTE:Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE INTERIOR LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE INTERIOR LAMP
1
Check the operation of the interior lamp in both ON and ILLUMINATED ENTRY positions.

Is the interior lamp inoperative in both positions?
Yes
No
If inoperative in the ON position, GO to A3. If inoperative in the ILLUMINATED ENTRY position, GO to A4.
A2: CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMP FOR POWER
1
Disconnect Lamp C104A.
2
Ignition switch in position II.
3
Ignition switch in position 0.

4
Measure the voltage between the interior lamp C104A pin 1, circuit 29-LC7 (OG/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new interior lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
A3: CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMP CIRCUIT FOR GROUND
1
Disconnect Lamp C104.

2
Measure the resistance between the interior lamp C104 pin 3, 31-LC7 (BK), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new interior lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 31-LC7 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
A4: CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMP FOR GROUND WITH THE DRIVER DOOR OPEN
1
Disconnect Lamp C104.
2
Open the driver door.

3
Measure the resistance between the interior lamp C104 pin 1, 31S-LC7 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new interior lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
A5: CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-LC7 (BK/BU) FOR OPEN
1
Disconnect GEM C170.

2
Measure the resistance between the interior lamp C104 pin 1, 31S-LC7 (BK/BU), harness side and the GEM C170 pin 3, circuit 31S-LC7 (BK/BU), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 31S-LC7 (BK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
A6: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
1
Disconnect Driver Side Interior Lamp Switch C124 (LHD) or C125 (RHD).

2
Measure the resistance between:
  • (LHD) the GEM C170 pin 18, circuit 31S-LC9 (BK/RD) and the driver side interior lamp switch C124 pin 1, harness side.
  • (RHD) the GEM C170 pin 19, circuit 31S-LC21 (BK/GN) and the driver side interior lamp switch C125 pin 1, harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new GEM.
REFER to: Generic Electronic Module (GEM) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation).
No
REPAIR circuit 31S-LC9 (BK/RD) or circuit 31S-LC21 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
B1: CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP FOR POWER
1
Disconnect Luggage Compartment Lamp C130.
2
Ignition switch in position II.
3
Ignition switch in position 0.

4
Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C130 pin 1, circuit 29-LB25 (OG/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 29-LB25 (OG/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
