UNEVEN STEERING ASSIST DURING PARKING
MANEUVERS - BUILT BEFORE 4/30/2008

ISSUE
Some 2008 Taurus, Sable and Taurus X vehicles built before 4/30/2008 may experience the following concerns during parking lot maneuvers: uneven
power assist or high efforts in right or left turn.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Check for system leaks:
a. If a visible leak is found, discontinue this procedure and follow Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 211-02 for repair procedures.
b. If no leak is found, go to Step 2.
2. Check for an uneven assist effort on left and right turns during a parking lot maneuver.
a. If assist efforts are even, discontinue this procedure and follow WSM, Section 211-00 diagnostics.
b. If the assist efforts are uneven from right to left turns, replace the Power Steering Gear per WSM, Section 211-00.
