CALIBRATIONS: All 1.6L, 2.3L HSC, 2.3L OHC, 2.8L, 3.8L, 4.9L, 5.0L, and 5.8L

WARNING:

This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and
could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

The symptoms of these concerns are the same as when there is moisture in the distributor. The concern is the result of the sparks in the distributor
causing the formation of ozone and nitrogen oxides that react to form nitric acid which deteriorates the distributor cap and components within the
distributor.

Starting in early 1986 model year, all EEC IV vehicles will have blade rotors and vented caps. The vent on the cap permits escape of the ozone from the 
distributor. The blade rotor reduces the rate of ozone generation. These distributors have a black colored vent and are not subject to this concern.

To service these concerns, replace the distributor and rotor with a vented cap and blade rotor as listed in the table.
NOTE:

When replacing the distributor rotor, apply Ford Silicone Dieletric Compound D7AZ- 19A331-A or equivalent, approximately 0.80 mm (1/32
inch) thick to all sides and edges of the rotor blade outside the plastic body.
