The high pressure cut-out switch is a normally closed pressure operated switch located in the compressor discharge line near the condenser (Figure 6).
The function of the switch is to interrupt the clutch circuit if the discharge pressure reaches 405 PSI +/- 15 PSI. The switch will close when the pressure
drops to 300 PSIG +/- 15 PSIG.
Diagnosis:
If "no A/C clutch engagement" is encountered and all possible causes listed in the service manual have been checked, proceed to check for:

Poor connection at the HPCO switch connector or at the overlay jumper harness inserted between the (12A581-14290) harness junction.

If connections are OK, check to verify the switch contact points are stuck open by using a jumper
wire across the HPCO switch wiring harness connector terminals.

If clutch now engages, replace the HPCO switch with a new switch and new O-ring.
Removal:
1.
Disconnect the wire harness connector from the high pressure cut-out switch.
2.
Unscrew the pressure switch from the discharge line.
NOTE:
Do not leave the switch partially unscrewed. This condition will allow the freon to discharge from the system.
Installation:
1.
Lubricate the new O-ring with clean refrigerant oil.
2.
Screw the high pressure cut-out switch to the discharge line nipple. Tighten the switch to 5-10 lbs.-ft.
3.
Connect the wire connector to the high pressure cut-out switch.
4.
Check the system for proper operation.
