Claims Preparation Instructions
Repairs provided under this program will be performed at no charge to owners for 60 months or 80,000 kilometers from the vehicle in-service date or
through October 31, 1988, whichever provides the greater coverage. Repairs required for these limitations will not be covered under this program but
will be the owners' responsibility.
Claim Forms 1864 for this program must include standard claim preparation procedures showing all parts used, their cost and 30% parts handling
allowance. Claims must show Program Number M63, be imprinted, dated and signed by authorized dealership personnel.
The completed Form 1864 MUST be submitted for all completed units and MUST be included with the removed steering gear assembly being sent to the
Warranty Parts Evaluation Centre.
Owner Refunds
Refund requests submitted under Owner Notification Program M63 are governed by the following guidelines:

Owner refund requests must be submitted on separate Claim Forms 1864.

Owners seeking refund for service performed at their expense prior to the announcement of this program must present the original copy of their paid
repair orders or invoices to any Ford or Mercury dealership by October 31, 1988.

A copy of the paid repair order or invoice should be retained in your service file for reference.
^
Refund requests for customers must be submitted by November 30, 1988. Claims submitted after that date will not be paid. Please enter the
information shown below on the Form 1864.
Administrative Allowance...0.3 Hrs. Insert in Box "A" on the Form 1864
Program Code...RM63 (Enter in Recall Box)

To claim the allowance, enter the 0.3 Hrs. in Box "A" of the Form 1864. Extend the 0.3 Hours at your authorized warranty labor rate and include the
result together with the refund amount in the "Total Claim" box of the Form 1864.

Enter the word REFUND in the area on the claim designated for PARTS USED.
^
Include the owner refund amount in the boxes entitled "MISCELLANEOUS" and "TOTAL CLAIM".

Please provide prompt reimbursement (refund) to all eligible owners who respond to this program with proper documentation regardless of the
source of original service.

The copy of the repair order or parts purchase receipt must be attached to the company submitted copy of the Form 1864.

Mail the completed refund to the Warranty Claims Processing Activity in Oakville.

Dear Owner:
Ford Motor Company of Canada, limited (Ford) is offering a no-charge Service Program (M63) for your 1985, 1986 or 1987 Tempo or Topaz car whose
serial number is shown on the enclosed Notification Form.
Reason For This Program
Ford has found that as a result of extremely high road salt usage in certain areas, the power steering gear input shaft seal may leak power steering fluid.
This may be a result of a corroded steering input shaft wearing out the shaft seal. If this condition exists it is possible for a gradual loss of power steering
assist to occur as the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir is lowered. This is often preceded by visible fluid leaks and aeration noise (moan)
from the pump.
Your Dealer Will
Inspect your car to verify the condition. If a power steering gear input shaft seal leak exists, the dealer will replace the power steering gear assembly at
no-charge to you.
This service program provides extended coverage for the described condition for 5 years or 80,000 kilometres, from your cars in-service date or through
October 31, 1988 whichever provides the greater coverage. Your dealer will refund you for this service if you paid to have it done.
