Remove

1. Slacken the wheel nuts and mark the position of the wheel rims in relation to the half shafts.

CAUTION:

Never raise a laden vehicle with a jack under the rear axle housing.

2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Detach the wheels.
4. Mark the position of the brake drums in relation to the wheel hubs and remove them.

CAUTION:

Remove the shafts carefully so as not to damage the oil seals in the axle housing.

5. Remove the half shafts.

6. Detach the driveshaft.
1. Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the rear axle.
2. Four bolts.
   Tie the driveshaft up to one side.

7. Determine the turning torque of the bearing.
   Turn the drive pinion evenly with the torque gauge, read off and note down the value.

8. Detach the drive flange.
   Remove the flange.

9. Remove the oil seal.
Install

10. Drive in the new oil seal.

11. NOTE:
• Attach the drive flange and adjust the bearing turning torque.
• Lightly grease the oil seal lip and the drive flange running face.
• Press on the drive flange and screw on the new self‐locking nut finger tight.
• Tighten the nut until the previously established bearing turning torque plus 0,3 Nm is obtained.
• Example: Previously established turning torque: 2,2 Nm
• Constant turning torque for new oil seal: + 0,3 Nm
• Total turning torque: 2,5 Nm

12. Fit the driveshaft.
1. Align the marks on the two flanges.
2. Four new bolts.

NOTE:

Fit the shafts carefully so as not to damage the oil seals in the axle housing.

NOTE:

Make sure the spacer ring is inserted in the wheel hub.

13. Fit the half shafts.
   Lightly grease the new O‐rings.

14. Fit the brake drums.
• Align the marks.
15. Install the wheel, refer to specifications for the wehel nut torque.
• Align the marks.
16. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE:

Check the rear axle oil level only when the vehicle is standing on a level surface.

17. Fill the rear axle with the specified oil until it overflows.
   Do up the oil check/filler plug tightly.
