Removal and Installation

General Equipment
Two-legged puller
M6 x 30 mm bolt
Spacer shim

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.
Vehicles with 2.4L diesel engine
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
All vehicles
  1. Detach the compressor clutch connector.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the refrigeration compressor before removing the retaining bolts and secure it at one side to prevent loading of the refrigerant lines.
    Detach the refrigeration compressor from the refrigeration compressor bracket.

  1. Remove the drive plate for the refrigeration compressor.

  1. Remove the belt pulley for the refrigeration compressor.
    • Remove the spacer shims.
    • Remove and discard the snap ring.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Mark the position of the connector for the refrigeration compressor clutch in relation to the compressor housing.
    Remove the clutch field coil using a suitable two-legged puller.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tilt the clutch field coil when installing in the refrigeration compressor.
    Install the clutch field coil with an M6 x 30 mm bolt, a spacer shim and the compressor drive plate.
  1. Remove the M6 x 30 mm bolt, spacer shim and compressor drive plate.
    • Install the spacer shims.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new refrigeration compressor pulley snap ring.
    Install the belt pulley for the refrigeration compressor.
    • Install the snap ring.

  1. Install the drive plate for the refrigeration compressor.
  1. Check the clutch air gap in the refrigeration compressor clutch. For additional information, refer to Section  412-00 Climate Control System - General Information.

  1. Attach the refrigeration compressor to the refrigeration compressor bracket.

  1. Attach the clutch connector.
Vehicles with 2.4L diesel engine
  1. Lower the vehicle.
All vehicles
  1. Install the auxiliary drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.
