Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. Remove the halfshaft retaining nut locking ring.
    • Discard the cotter pin.

  1. Loosen the halfshaft retaining nut.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire.
    For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the brake caliper and anchor plate from the wheel knuckle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Suspend the brake caliper and anchor plate to prevent load being placed on the brake hose.
    Suspend the brake caliper and anchor plate.

  1. Remove the halfshaft retaining nut and washer.

  1. Remove the wheel hub and brake disc assembly retaining bolts.

  1. Remove the brake disc retaining bolts.
  1. Install the thrust studs.

  1. Install the location studs.

  1. Install the thrust plate.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the special tool is located so that the pressure spindle has the same distance from the driveshaft as the pressure piston from the pressure plate.
    Loosen the halfshaft from the wheel hub and brake disc assembly.

    2 Spindle

  1. Install the nut to remove the wheel hub and brake disc assembly.

  1. Remove the special tool.

Installation
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that new bolts are installed.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Apply high temperature grease to the mating surfaces of the wheel bearing housing and the wheel knuckle.
    Install the wheel hub and brake disc assembly to the wheel knuckle, using lubricating paste.

  1. Attach the wheel hub and brake disc assembly to the halfshaft.
  1. Remove the special tool.

  1. Attach the brake caliper and anchor plate to the wheel knuckle.
  1. Install the wheel and tire.
    For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that a new nut is installed.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:Not following the work instruction leads to destruction of the components.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the halfshaft retaining nut washer is installed.
    Install the halfshaft retaining nut and washer.
    Tighten the halfshaft retaining nut in 5 stages:
    1. Rotate the wheel 5 times.
    1. Tighten the halfshaft retaining nut to 250 Nm.
    1. Rotate the wheel 5 times.
    1. Fully tighten the halfshaft retaining nut to 500Nm.
    1. Rotate the wheel 5 times.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new cotter pin.
    Install the halfshaft retaining nut locking ring.
    1. Attach the halfshaft retaining nut locking ring.
    1. Install the cotter pin.
