Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE:
NOTE:Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
All vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.

  1. Torque: 12 Nm
  1. Remove the front wheels and tires.
    Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure a new steering column flexible coupling nut and bolt are installed.
    Torque: 23 Nm

  1. Torque: 80 Nm

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure a new tie rod end nut is installed.

  1. Torque: 55 Nm
Left-hand drive vehicles with 2.2L diesel engine or 2.4L diesel engine

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all openings are sealed.
    1. Torque: 3 Nm
    1. Torque: 23 Nm
Right-hand drive vehicles with 2.2L diesel engine or 2.4L diesel engine

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all openings are sealed.
    1. Torque: 3 Nm
    1. Torque: 23 Nm
Left-hand drive vehicles with 2.3L engine

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all openings are sealed.
    1. Torque: 3 Nm
    1. Torque: 23 Nm
Right-hand drive vehicles with 2.3L engine

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all openings are sealed.
    1. Torque: 3 Nm
    1. Torque: 23 Nm
All vehicles

  1. Torque: 115 Nm

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Fill the power steering system.
    Refer to: Power Steering System Filling (211-00 Steering System - General Information, General Procedures).
  1. Bleed the power steering system.
    Refer to: Power Steering System Bleeding (211-00 Steering System - General Information, General Procedures).
  1. Check the toe setting and adjust as necessary.
    Refer to: Front Toe Adjustment (204-00 Suspension System - General Information, General Procedures).
