Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures). | | -
Shift the transmission into third gear. | | -
Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation). | | -
Loosen the driveshaft front center bearing retaining bolts. | | -
NOTE:Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the transmission output shaft flange. Detach the driveshaft from the transmission output shaft flange and position it to one side. | | -
Disconnect the steering column flexible coupling from the steering gear pinion. - Remove the lower pinch bolt.
- Detach the steering column shaft and position to one side.

Detach the power steering lines from the front axle crossmember. | | -
Remove the exhaust muffler. | | -
Detach the gearshift cables. | | -
NOTE:When using a two post lift. Support the engine with a wooden block. | | -
NOTE:When using a four post lift. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the vehicle under the engine crossmember. | | -
Remove the transmission support insulator. - Remove the front axle to bracket retaining bolts.
- Remove the bracket to transmission retaining bolts.

Lower the front axle crossmember 150 mm (left-hand side shown). | | -
Using the special tool, lower the front axle. | | -
CAUTION:If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, rinse off the affected areas with cold water without delay. CAUTION:Close off the clutch slave cylinder pipe to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder pipe. | Vehicles with tachograph | -
Disconnect the tachograph sensor electrical connector. | All vehicles | -
Disconnect the reversing lamp switch and the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connectors. | | -
Detach the heat shield and disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. | | -
Remove one transmission retaining bolt from the right-hand side and one from the left-hand side. | | -
Remove the remaining transmission retaining bolts from the left-hand side. | | -
Remove the remaining transmission retaining bolts from the right-hand side. | | -
CAUTION:Do not tilt the transmission during removal. This may cause damage to the pilot bearing. Remove the transmission. | | |
