NOTE:Make sure the road wheels are in the straight ahead position. Centralize the steering wheel and lock it in position. | | -
Remove the stabilizer bar. For additional information, refer to: Front Stabilizer Bar (204-01 Front Suspension, Removal and Installation). | | -
Loosen the lower arm ball joint retaining nut. | | -
CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage. Using a suitable two leg puller, detach the lower arm from the wheel knuckle on both sides. - Use a soft faced hammer to strike the lower arm.
- Remove and discard the lower arm ball joint retaining nut.

Detach the power steering lines from the front axle crossmember. | | -
Detach the steering gear from the front axle crossmember. - Using cable ties, support the steering gear on both sides.
| Vehicles with 2.2L diesel engine | -
Remove the engine support insulator. - Discard the engine support insulator to transaxle housing bolt.
| Vehicles with 2.3L engine or 2.4L diesel engine | -
Remove the transmission support insulator to front axle crossmember bolts. | All vehicles | -
Using a transmission jack, support the front axle crossmember and lower arm assembly. | | -
WARNING:Make sure the front axle crossmember is secured to the transmission jack. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. | | -
Remove the front axle crossmember retaining bolts on both sides. | | -
Remove the front axle crossmember and lower arm assembly. | | -
NOTE:If installing a new front axle crossmember, remove the lower arms. Remove the lower arm on both sides. | Installation WARNING:Make sure the front axle crossmember is secured to the transmission jack. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. WARNING:Install a new lower arm ball joint retaining nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. NOTE:If installing a new front axle crossmember, install the lower arms. NOTE:Install a new engine support insulator to transaxle housing bolt. | -
To install, reverse the removal procedure. | | -
