General Service Precautions
CAUTION: The procedure must be followed in order listed to temporarily disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System and
prevent false diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from setting. Failure to follow these procedures could result in possible air bag deployment,
personal injury or otherwise unneeded SIR repairs.
The DERM can maintain sufficient voltage to cause a deployment for up to 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned "OFF" or the battery
is disconnected. Many service procedures require disconnection of Fuses C-22 and C-23 and the steering column circuit from the deployment loop to
avoid an accidental deployment.
