Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair).
2. Remove the rear propeller shaft from the vehicle.
3. Use a suitable tail shaft plug to minimize fluid leakage after propeller shaft removal.

For vehicles equipped with a two piece propeller shaft, refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (See: Transmission and
Drivetrain/Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints/Drive/Propeller Shaft/Service and Repair/Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement).
4. Using a 1/4 inch (6 mm) drill bit, remove the rivets from the heat shields, as necessary.
5. Remove the exhaust tailpipe heat shield from the body panel.
6. Remove three muffler heat shield rivets from the heat shield. The rear middle rivet is not easily accessible.
7. If removal of heat shield is necessary, then body will need to be lifted of the frame for clearance. For access to other components, repositioning of
the heat shield is recommended.
