Popping Noise From the Exhaust 
(Supersedes 93-031, dated August 6, 1993)

SYMPTOM

A loud, metallic, popping noise from the exhaust system after accelerating or when coming to a stop.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Insufficient clearance between the heat shield and the "B" pipe.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

[NEW] Install a washer at each of the two clamps inside the heat shield.

1.

Raise the car on a lift.

2.

Remove the two nuts and bolts from the left side of the heat shield.

3.

Inspect the "B" pipe heat shield for cracks; replace it if necessary.
