Component Testing
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (See: Restraint Systems/Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information/SIR Caution) .
Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module when performing this diagnostic. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (See: Body and
Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair) .
Important: The cruise control switch must be ON in order to properly test the switch indicator.
1. Ignition OFF, remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement (See:
Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module
Replacement) .
2. Remove the steering wheel cruise control switch. Refer to Steering Wheel Control Switch Assembly Replacement (See: Accessories and Optional
Equipment/Sensors and Switches - Accessories and Optional Equipment/Steering Mounted Controls Assembly/Service and Repair) .
3. Turn the cruise control switch ON. Connect a DMM positive lead to terminal 1 and the negative lead to terminal 9 of the cruise control switch and
measure the resistance. Verify the meter reading indicates continuity.
‹› If the reading indicates an open circuit, replace the cruise control switch assembly.
4. Connect the DMM positive lead to terminal 9 and the negative lead to terminal 1 of the cruise control switch and measure the resistance. Verify
the meter reading indicates an open circuit.
‹› If the reading is not as specified, replace the cruise control switch assembly.

Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) supplies battery voltage to the cruise control switch. The cruise control switch signal is an input to the BCM. The BCM
monitors the cruise control switch signal circuit in order to detect when the driver has requested to perform a cruise control function. The BCM detects a
specific voltage signal on the cruise control switch signal circuit when a switch is applied.
Conditions for Enabling Cruise Control
*
The vehicle speed is greater than 40 km/h (25 mph).
*
The vehicle is not in PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or 1st gear.
*
The system voltage is within 9-16 volts.
*
The park brake or brakes are not applied.
Diagnostic Aids
