DESCRIPTION:
A letter was mailed to Santa Fe owners who purchased their vehicles in March and April of 2002. The letter provides new installation instructions for
Santa Fe roof rack cross-rails. Incorrect installation of the cross-rails may generate an objectionable wind noise in certain conditions. This is especially
true for sunroof-equipped models. (See "Letter to Customers" below)
DEAR HYUNDAI SANTA FE OWNER, At Hyundai Motor America, improving vehicle quality and customer satisfaction with our products is a
constant goal. It has come to our attention that the roof rack cross rails may generate an objectionable wind noise in certain conditions. This is especially
true for vehicles equipped with the sunroof option. The source of the noise has been identified as improper installation of the roof mounted cross-rail.
Here are a few tips for reducing roof mounted cross-rail wind noise:
1.
When the cross-rails are not in use, you may remove the cross-rails and stow them at home.
2.
If the cross-rails are left on the vehicle, please be certain that they are properly mounted. Mounting the cross-rails backwards is easy to do and will
increase wind noise significantly. There are labels on the bottom of the cross-rails that show the direction that the cross-rails need to be installed.
The illustrations shown can help you understand and install the cross-rails correctly.
