Coasting Fuel Cut System

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

    The coasting fuel cut-off (or slow cut) system blocks fuel flow in the slow (idle) circuit of the carburetor during deceleration. Without this system, the
high manifold vacuum during deceleration would draw excessive amounts of fuel through the idle circuit causing a rich condition and after-burning in
the exhaust manifold. The system is controlled by the ECM. When the slow cut solenoid (installed on the carburetor) is energized, fuel will flow through
the slow circuit. The solenoid is energized whenever the engine is running, except when coasting (decelerating). The ECM senses a coasting condition by
means of an idle switch (vacuum switch), MAP sensor, and distributor tachometer reference signal.  The ECM will de-energize the solenoid if the
following conditions exist simultaneously.

    1.  The idle switch is "on" (high manifold vacuum indicating closed throttle).   
    2.  Engine rpm exceeds a specified limit.
