Fast Idle Solenoid: Description and Operation
NOTE: This component is controlled by the A/C system. Since it affects idle operation, it has been included in this section.
Fast Idle Solenoid
PURPOSE
Raises engine idle speed when the A/C compressor is engaged.
LOCATION
On the intake manifold.
OPERATION
When the A/C is turned on and the thermoswitch is closed, battery voltage is applied to the solenoid. The solenoid energizes and opens an air
passage that allows air to bypass the throttle valve.
