Camshaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important:  The oil pan requires removal in order to remove the engine front cover. For a RWD vehicle remove the engine. Refer to Engine; Service
and Repair; Replacement; and start on step six.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. 
3. Drain the cooling system. 
4. Remove the condenser. if equipped. 
5. Remove the radiator. 
6. Remove the valve rocker arm covers.
7. Remove the intake manifold.
8. Remove the valve lifters and the valve pushrods. 
9. Remove the engine front cover.

10. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. 

11. Remove the camshaft timing chain and the camshaft sprocket.
12. Remove the balance shaft drive gear.

13. Remove the camshaft. 

Installation Procedure

Important: 

Whenever a new camshaft is installed, do the following procedures:

Change the engine oil.

-

Change the engine oil filter.

-

Add oil suppjement to the engine oil.
