Valve: Service and Repair
Valve Guide Seal
TOOLS REQUIRED

J 23590 Spark Plug Port Adapter.
^
J 5892-D Valve Spring Compressor.
^
Or equivalents.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
3. Remove the valve rocker arms.
4. Install the J23590 into the spark plug hole.
5. Apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.
NOTE: Tap the valve retainer with a soft-faced hammer to loosen the valve keys.
6. Place the J 5892-D over the valve rocker arm stud.
7. Install a valve rocker arm nut on the valve rocker arm stud in order to hold the J 5892-D in place.
8. Compress the valve spring with the J 5892-D.
9. Remove the valve keys.
10. Carefully release the spring tension.
11. Remove the J 5892-D.
