Oil Filter Adapter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the oil filter.
2. Be sure that the gasket is removed with the filter.
3. Remove the oil filter adapter.
4. Remove the oil filter bypass valve using a screwdriver or punch to pry the valve out.
5. Clean the oil filter mounting surface.
INSTALLATION
1. Install oil filter bypass valve.

Insert a new oil filter bypass valve in the cylinder block

Use a center punch to stake the valve in three places.
2. Install the oil filter adapter.

Tighten the oil filter adapter to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
3. Install a new oil filter.

Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil before installation.
^
Tighten the oil filter 3/4 to one full turn after the gasket contacts the cylinder block.
