Combination Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

NOTE: Make sure that the turn signal lever on the multifunction switch is in the neutral position.

1. Detach the negative battery cable.
2. Disable the SRS. See: Restraint Systems

3. Take off the steering column trim covers.
4. Remove the straps that secure the steering column wiring harness.
5. Detach the steering column bulkhead connector from the vehicle wire harness by loosening the center screw.
6. Detach the gray and black wiring harness connectors from the steering column bulkhead connector.
7. Unscrew the screws that retain the multifunction switch to the steering column.
8. Remove the multifunction switch from the steering column.

INSTALLATION

1. Attach the multifunction switch to the steering column by doing the following.

a. Use a small screwdriver to compress the electrical contact and move the multifunction switch into position.
b. The electrical contact must rest on the canceling cam assembly.

2. Tighten the screws that retain the multifunction switch to the steering column to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
3. Attach the gray and black wiring harness connectors to the steering column bulkhead connector.
4. Attach the steering column bulkhead connector to the vehicle wire harness then tighten the screw to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
5. Attach the straps to secure the steering column wiring harness.
6. Install the steering column trim covers.
7. Enable the SRS.  See: Restraint Systems

8. Attach the negative battery cable
