Wheel Fastener: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

NOTE:  The Special Service Tool (SST) required to complete this replacement is a J 9746-02 wheel stud remover.

1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands then remove the wheel assembly.
2. Remove the brake rotor.
3. Remove the studs by doing the following procedures.

a. Press the bolt out using an arbor press.
b. Be careful not to damage the wheel mounting surface on the hub flange.

INSTALLATION 

1. Insert the wheel stud into the hole in the hub by starting the serrated bolt into the hole in the hub by tapping lightly with a hammer.

NOTE: Make sure the bolt is square with the hub before pressing on the arbor.

2. After inserting the studs into the rotor, install the rotor.
3. Install the wheel assembly, then lower the vehicle.
