REMOVAL 

NOTE:

The Special Service Tools (SSTs) required to complete these procedures are a J 24319-B universal steering linkage puller, a J 29193 steering
linkage installer (12 mm) and a J 29194 steering linkage installer (14 mm).

Use the proper tool to separate all ball joints.

1. Raise the vehicle and support the vehicle with safety stands, and then remove the inner tie rods ball stud nuts.
2. Detach the inner tie rods ball studs from the relay rod.
3. Remove the relay rod ball stud nut at the pitman arm.
4. Detach the relay rod ball stud from the pitman arm using the J 24319-B tool.
5. Remove the relay rod ball stud nut at the idler arm.
6. Detach the rod ball stud from the idler arm using the J 24319-B tool.
7. Remove the relay rod then inspect the center link and look for:

a. Threads on the tie rod and the tie rod end for damage.
b. Ball stud threads for damage.
c. The ball stud seals for excessive wear.

8. Clean all the threads on the ball stud and ball stud nut.

INSTALLATION 

1. Attach the relay rod ball stud to the idler arm. Make sure the seal is on the stud then tighten the Special Service Tool (SST) J 29193 or J 29194 to 

54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in order to seat the taper.

2. Put the nut onto the relay rod ball stud at the idler arm and tighten the nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
3. Attach the relay rod ball stud to the pitman arm. Make sure the seal is on the stud then tighten either the J 29193 or J 29194 tools to 54 Nm (40 ft.

lbs.) in order to seat the taper.

4. Put a nut onto the relay rod ball stud at the pitman arm and tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
5. Attach the inner tie rod ball studs to the relay rod making sure the seal is on the stud. Tighten either the J 29193 or J 29194 tools to 54 Nm (40 ft.

lbs.) in order to seat the taper then tighten the nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs).
