About the Impulse
The Impulse was the North American name for the Isuzu Piazza, a three-door sports coupe made from 1981 to 1993. The first generation had rear-wheel drive, with a turbo model from 1985 and, from 1988, a suspension tuned by Lotus. The second generation switched to front- or all-wheel drive and was also sold as the Geo Storm.
What these manuals cover
- 1985–1989 (first generation): the 2.0-litre four, the 2.0 turbo (4ZC1-T) and the US-only 2.3-litre four.
- 1990–1992 (second generation): the 1.6-litre DOHC four (4XE1-W), its turbo version and the 1.8-litre DOHC four (4XF1-W).
Tip: the Geo Storm is the second-generation Impulse's twin, with the same 1.6 and 1.8 engines.
