Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER UNIT/CORE
Removal Procedure

1.

Disarm airbag system. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable and cover connector end with electrical tape, then drain cooling system.

3.

Disconnect heater hoses from heater unit.

4.

Remove instrument panel as follows:
a. Remove lefthand lower switch bezel, then the cigar lighter bezel.
b. Disconnect engine hood opener cable from lever.
c. Remove knee pad assembly, then the glove compartment.
d. Remove front console bracket.
e. Remove instrument cluster hood, then the instrument cluster.

Remove instrument windshield cowl hole covers, then the retaining screws.

g. Remove windshield cowl, then the instrument panel retaining screws.
h. Remove instrument panel.

5.

Remove resistor, then the duct.

6.

Refer to EVAPORATOR CORE AND EXPANSION VALVE for evaporator assembly removal.

7.

Remove center ventilation duct, then the heater unit.

8.

Remove duct, then the mode control case. Do not remove link unit.

9.

Separate core case halves, then remove halves.

10.

Remove heater core.

11.

Reverse procedure to install.
