Oil Pan: Service and Repair

1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then isolate cable end with electrical tape or equivalent.
2.
Support engine with engine support bar or equivalent, then raise and support vehicle.
3.
Drain engine oil, then remove split bar, Fig. 54.
4.
Remove center beam, then torque rod.
5.
Remove front stiffener, then rear engine mount.
6.
Remove rear stiffener, then flywheel inspection cover.
7.
Using Oil Pan Seal Cutter tool No. J-37228 or equivalent, remove oil pan. Sealant is applied to entire mating surface of the oil pan. Do not
pry on pan or damage to oil pan flange may result.
8.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Completely remove all old sealant and oil from oil pan and sealing surface of engine block, then apply a 0.18 inch bead of sealant part No.
TB-1207C or equivalent to the sealing surface of the oil pan. The oil pan must be install within 30 minutes after sealant application.
b. Torque oil pan retaining bolts to 89 inch lbs.
